some of you are already familiar with a new forum opened last week by a gotr cr3, Predator85, at www.vscommand.com.

being familiar with this area, he was looking to provide interactivity for all command ranks within the vs emerald empire. so far i've observed a mixed response, and almost all of them refer back to this board in one way or another.

as a veteran of web development for this community, i have something to say about this:

there is no competition. vscommand is not trying to usurp audience from cr5.com, nor vice-versa. this space has been established and is maintained for the betterment of the empire as a tool for our most influential commanders to communicate and work together.

the last thing either of these sites needs is to be put through some nonsense popularity contest, and i trust that everyone here has enough of that in /c anyway.

so please keep an open mind in regards to the new boards; if you're in a good mood, get registered and show some support.
as both boards work in parallel, it will benefit them both, as well as developing the empire's personnel infrastructure.

Here in lies the problem. Whether this is actually true or not in any one else's opinion I see this forum as competition for CR5.com which I never bother to sign up for. So because it is competing the cr5s in support of cr5.com are going to be against vscommand.com. I know a lot of people (cr5 or otherwise) on this game who don't like confrontation. Because of the attitudes of the people in opposition be prepared for a fight (a stupid fight) but a fight none the less. Anyway I am happy this site is up and running not only for strategy between commanders for global co-ordination but also for outfit co-operation. Marketing this site is going to be hard in that some of the older more experienced players will either take a while to come over or they are going to stay put and be very biligerent towards us. But if you really want to promote us in game besides just globals (even though those may be effective) we may want to form a group similar to the UVA. Although I know some people may not like that idea it is a way to promote. Well I have said the gentler side of my peace so I will stop talking now.

heh, i was thinking about addressing this tonight anyway, so i'll take this as an opportunity.

most of you know i'm active at cr5.com and that i'm an officer in rahl's outfit; i'm also staff at planetside universe, and i run Planetside Syndicate.

i'm going to take the liberty of speaking on behalf of rahl, the owner of cr5.com, as he's become a good friend of mine and i know him pretty well.

he doesn't mind one bit that you start a website for the vanu emerald. in fact, he'll welcome it heartily. he's not out to compete over people, all he wants is a good open area for commanders to plot and work together.

based on my own extensive involvement in this community, i can say that syco is right in that some people will interpret this site as competition with cr5.com - and i suspect that you may have intended it to act as such. HOWEVER:
you don't have competition from cr5.com. we all want what's best for the vanu empire, and we don't care who runs what sites that have which people on them. forming a second alliance just to promote your boards, for example, is the worst thing i've ever heard of.

what we want to do is to make communication amongst our empire as easy, friendly, and open as we can. trying to make two sites with the same goals compete is wholly counterproductive, i don't think anyone will disagree there.

to conclude, i encourage everyone to do everything they can to promote interoutfit communications on either board. the more of that there is, the better of we will be as an empire.

I'm all for people registering on both and squeezing out as much as they can get from both.

However, I did note that syco got a bit disgruntled the other day on /c chat when a member of his outfit hit CR5, and as always I wrote in /c chat "Please register on Commandrank5.com"

He said "No, register on vscommand.com" When I asked, "Why?" he said "He's a member of my outfit and I want him to register there." When I commented that people could reigster on both he was oddly silent. So it definitely 'feels' like there is competition coming from the other end.

I sincerely hope that it doesn't become a pissing match. We've got better things to get into pissing matches about!

Might I ask who you are referring to when you say "they"?

Predator has had this idea for a while now and has been working on it. He in no way intended for this to be a competitive thing and he did not do this because of disliking anyone. His forums is an "alternative" for those that are not CR4 or CR5 to get into the loop and learn a few things from those that have been around for a while, which I personally think is a great idea. It's just an alternative, not a competition. If you have any doubts, just have a conversation with Predator and you will see that he is not that kind of person.

If reference to the situation with Syco, I dunno, i wasn't there, but please remember that it was Syco and not Predator. Please know that the actions of one does not reflect the feelings of all others involved.

I have personally support both forums. When I became CR4, i would always post in /c for the new CR4's to come here to CR5.com to join, just as I will support vscommand.

I just hope this doesn't get out of hand and I think we should work together to make sure it doesn't, whether you choose to be active on both forums or not, lets not make this out to be more than what it is.

VScommand offers ALL CR ranks their own area to post, doesn't mean this site is not acceptable, just gives them a place to go and not be left out of the loop. Gives them a place to ask questions for the higher ranks to help them out.

VSCommand.com is not in competition with Commandrank5.com. Commandrank5.com is just for the CR4's and CR5's. VSCommand.com is for everyone regardless of Command Rank. I created VSCommand.com so as players progress through the command ranks, the CR5's can help them. So if a CR1/CR2/CR3 or CR4 has questions, the CR5's will help them. Also my web site features outfit forums where outfits can plan raids, alliance and other stuff. I'm trying to build a community. And it's also an alternitive. Some people do not like commandrank5.com for such and such reason and I am offering them an alternitive. Already some people do not like my web site so that is why they are staying at www.Commandrank5.com. Both web sites/forums are meant to communicate with the empire and help make the VS empire better. Weather you choose to go to my web site www.VSCommand.com or stay at rahls, as long as your at one of the two, that is all that really matters.

Ok Wolfette, lets try it from this angle. What would motivate a collection of people to operate outside of an established system to accomplish the same objective, but with minor extras tacked on? I think when that question is answered honestly in our specific case, it points to a disapproval of this site and the way its run....which is me. I'm not objecting to that. Really, its ok to not like me and my site. Fine, no problem.

But, it would seem that if a group is really interested in advancing communication and teamwork, they'd hop on board here and help. Suggest changes, suggest additions...make it better.

Please don't interpret what I'm saying as anger or frustration...its not. Honestly...I just don't care if people start other sites. I wish them luck. I just don't see the point and I wonder about motives.

Now, I don't see the value of getting CR3 players off in their own forum. Hell, even most CR4 players really aren't interested in using a forum regularly. I have offered on numerous occasions to create a forum for other command ranks if someone could show me a small group willing to use it. So far, no one has showed up to use it.

The public forum here is intended to be a place for any Vanu who wants to talk to come visit. Some show up, but not too many. If people wish to use it for other purposes, I'm game.

martyr and I have spoken recently about adapting the outfit forum here into a bigger feature that could be used by some outfits who don't have the time and resources to build their own forums. If I find people who are willing to use that mechanism, I'm willing to fire it up.

There may not be alot of interest in the lower command ranks to participate in the forums yet, but I believe that is part of what Predator is trying to accomplish, trying to get them active. If we work at getting their interest in the forums now so that we can help them, it will only make them better leaders as they grow in rank. Not saying it will be easy, but at least we can give it a try.

No one is "Forced" to use VSCommand.com you know. If you don't like it, that is fine. Commandrank5.com and VScommand.com are alternitives. If you don't like one of the sites/forums, just simply use the other one. Both web sites want to unite the VS Empire. Some see me being unfair, some see Rahl unfair. As long as your at one of the two forums stating your issues and how to help better serve and make the VS Empire more successful, that is all that matters.

I banned that IP address since I will not tolerate garbage like that. If you don't like it, i'm sorry but your not forced to go to VSCommand.com you know. If he wants his IP unbanned, he will have to speak to me so we can get this cleared up... but I doubt that will happen since you guys are mostly anti-VScommand.com. Anyways, rahl runs his forums the way he see's fit as well as my. If he doesn't like someone posting such and such comments and bans there IP, that is his decision. I don't think its fair to say that people here are anti-vscommand. I know i'm not against it. I'm sure several people will use the forum and enjoy it. However, I question the reasoning behind it and its neccessity. I see contributing to making this forum better or helping to offer discussions here to a wider audience as a better path. I think the duplication of effort is a shame. And, like I said...I just am too lazy to commit to more forum reading. I already read too many.

Rahl, your a busy man. You run an outfit, you run an outfit web site, you run a few VS fan sites and you run this forum. On top of that you work. I bet you really don't get a lot of time to play planetside do you? I wouldn't say replacing Commandrank5.com but rather adding more features that was left out. And if people switch over to VSCommand.com, you wouldn't have to run commandrank5.com witch would give you more time to play and less time to debate people on these forums. I think its pointless, but the idea is somewhat good, but can never be enforced I can be a tr main make a cr3 VS in about 3-4 weeks and get into the forum and access to the information and discussion.

I don't see it as competing. I just don't see need for another place to discuss things.
