So review and put forth your thoughts, beside my comments is there anything here to warrant a CSR showing up let alone silencing and banning members.

And if it is abuse how do we respond ?

Looks like Bullshit, smells like bullshit, then its bullshit to me. Nothing there has not been done over and over since the game began exept more people agreeing on the target. There is no infraction of the global rules by Rahl or any of the cr5s that globaled to gpnl.drawRect(shadowrect.x, shadowrect.y, shadowrect.width, shadowrect.height); support the chosen target. Regardless of what the condition is of DanB the way he acted was very unprofessional and will reflect SOE. They will probably have to do something as a result of it because they will not be able to sit on it. By the way I believe DanB has been tranfered to Star Wars as well and is only in PS as a part time deal...least thats the rumor.

Essentially he was banned for telling csrdanb to "can it" from what I've read. So really what we've witnessed is a flexing of muscles to show that there is a 'new sheriff in town'. How we'll handle this obviously has yet to be determined. To me, cancelling subs is more giving in than anything else...I would recommend urging outfit members and freinds to appeal him daily. Planetside is a cash cow for SOE now...minimal staffing and dev, low maintainance. Enough appeals occuring regularly will make things happen.

I suspect that mental888's global that tricked people into thinking I was sending abusive tells is what made people report me.

Overall, I'm just convinced Dan is a prick. He didn't communicate with me at all, he just gave me a line of bull about the silence lasting 24 hours and left.

Today, almost 24 hours later, another CSR responded to my appeal demanding to be unsilenced and given an explanation.

I'm speaking with Sam about it. I think Dan was out of line and was the true cause of trouble. If Dan was a CR5 he'd have been suspended for community disruption by now. But as a CSR he is just peachy I guess.

W00t, my name appears in that chat log TWICE. Anyway, so I can see why you guys got possibly silenced. From what that chat log reads, there was tons of smart ass remarks towards somebody who just said "Quit the global spam" and actually has the power to do something about it. Now, of course he probably did the silencing and suspending for reasons that wrong, but a better approach to the problem would be to just say OK and move on. I mean, if your boss came up to you and said, "Stop screwing around or ill fire you." would you argue? Probably not, since he can do what he wants with you wether you like it or not. He's the boss. Now, so like that, Dan can do what he likes to you. Then it comes to his bosses. If they dont agree with what he did, they fix the problem, adressing the players and dan himself. So, probably the best fix in this situation would be just to have accepted what he said and not argue over it and start this whole flame war.

But, thats just my opinion...

There will never be only one person in the chain of command for action being taken. You only see DanB as the one taking action but he has to go to a supervisor and explain the situation. (Even if planetside dosnt have a specified supervisor all CSR's on the floor are trained and any supervisor on the floor has the authority.)

here's the thing... annoying another player is not grounds for punitive action.

more importantly, annoying a CSR is not grounds for punitive action.

disrupting the game is grounds for it.

and here's what i have to say from that point of view:

danB disrupted my game. severely.

he threatened to silence/suspend me without provocation, and he DID take action against three of my most trusted commanders (rahl, elana, mental) upon whom i rely for strategic direction.

examples:

1. TRx annoys me far more than a global with an april fools' joke, but they'll never get hit for it. they disrupt my play experience by charging me with five rexoshield MCGs, and they regularly ruin my plans. so much, in fact, that i don't even pay attention to my chat window where i might see an importart global.

2. if one of my customers told me to 'can it' in a public environment, i would NEVER disconnect their service as a result, or stop their outbound packets. ESPECIALLY without discussing the event with them. that is atrocious customer service.

Now, if getting rid of the chatbox is a bit drastic, the wonderful PS Dev Team also improved the following functions:

/ignore add <playername>

With this wonderful function, you can stop recieving text from said player. I'd go on about the function, but honestly, it's that fucking simple. [Reija pays FCC $500,000 for his verbal malfunction]

"But Mr. Reija, what if I want to ignore every single CR5? My ignore list would be as long as your johnson!"

Well little jimmy, I've got a great new feature to tell you about!

It's called Turning off the Global Chat Channel. In fact, you can turn off ANY chat channel! It's simple. Just click the middle button on your ChatBox and Un-check any chat channel you no longer wish to recieve. HONESTLY, (say it with me folks!) IT'S THAT SIMPLE!

The point is, DanB is NOT my boss... he works for me. And for EVERYONE of us. We're paying his salary not the other way around. Now he's there to keep "game play" from being disrupted. But what happens to the game play when you bully the CR5's to the point that they don't want to chance exerciseing the powers that they've EARNED? Remember, we earned the ability to make Globals. Earned it by leading, by making the game fun and interesting. It's our game, we're the community. Now TJ may have goaded him a bit but I imagine TJ was pretty pissed about what had already happened to his friends. You don't back off when someone wrongs your friends, so kudos to him for that, I think he could have done it smarter but I suspect the end result would have been the same.

Ah, but is DanB the boss of the PS Community?

i have a lot invested in this community and in this game.

for the first time, dan's actions offended me personally, as well as affecting the way i feel about and play this game. i would be shirking my responsibility and ignoring my vast investments if i turned a blind eye to these events. as a neutral observer, so to speak, my own testimony has a particular value to the process of analysis in that i'm not acting in self-defense or expressing agression, just contributing my observations and suggestions.

now having discussed the events at length with samhayne, i'm comfortable continuing to play the game, but it's dismaying to see such a stupid argument between sony and some individuals generating so much drama within our community; that's why i'm still discussing it here.

this game has gone down the shitter due to internal affairs, not the crazy fun people who play it. As i recall (forget who said it) someone warned they were going to dismantle the VS superior command infastructure.

I actually appealed myself yesterday regarding use of global to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. While I of course have never felt I'm in the wrong stating a different target I wanted to get his take on it and also defend myself against those that had appealed me with no justification.

Basically he said that there is no SOE rule that says CR5's have to vote or agree on global targets. He made a point of saying I've done nothing wrong. He also suggested ignoring all the arguments on /c (good advice).

So keep on appealing me NubS! One day maybe you'll learn that appeals only work when the person in question has actually done something wrong!

Indeed. As we learned from this most recent situation. In the end we've received apologies from Sony, so we were in the right as well.

Then you played over christmas and were pretty decent, and now you're a dick again. Do you feel that you can't be a dick when it's on somebody else's dime? I was unsure of SOE's policy regarding appeals and therefore had a very good reason to care ... while I didn't feel I'd done any wrong I wasn't sure if bannings were conducted based on the actual rules SOE's laid out ... or if they were based on the number of appeals that come in.

Thankfully for me bannings ARE based on SOE's rules ... rule's which I have not broken.

The reason I quit at Christmas was my computer needed to be upgraded and just couldn't handle Planetside anymore. We didn't get into any arguments because half the time I was stuck in lag hell ... it's hard to pick out targets and lead continental battles when your FPS is 3.4 with a packet loss of 5.8

I was around for about a week over Christmas then gave up when it became apparent my computer just wasn't going to cut it anymore.

Now that I've upgraded it has freed me up to concentrate on providing our troops with the fun fights they crave. I suppose that this difference in gameplay mentality has alot to do with how some of you percieve me.

I don't believe in CR5 votes as they do not take into account the wishes of those who are not CR5. There was a pop lock's worth of troops on Cyssor that decided that was THEIR primary and to hell with the "CR5 approved primary"

Global the target you want, whoever wants to come to your target will. If your target is a wise and just choice I'm sure you'll get all the support you need ... unless there is a fun fight going on somewhere else. Take into account that many people don't care about strategic objectives if they are already having a good time where they are. Many troops also prefer to finish a continent they have started, making globals to recall somewhere else that much more annoying.

Things would have gone alot smoother last night if instead of trying to pull troops off Cyssor we simply said /comall great fight on Searhus AND Cyssor go to whichever battle you feel like. I include myself in that statement too.

Both continents were basically locked all night providing a great fight no matter where one went.

I call for an end of calling primaries. Simply state what target you want over global without this primary BS. Otherwise I'll have to start calling some "primaries" of my own which I think are more representative of where people really want to be.

We're at the point where too many CR5s exist for everyone to call thier own primary. A collective mind is more powerful than a single one. Sure you have some valid points Bamelin, but your overall strategy will cause us to get sanc-locked more frequently, and have us lose in general on a global scale.

My policy is, as long as we got amerish and esamir secured, I don't care wtf happens.

When you start to fuck with that, then we're gonna have a problem.

To be quite honest, the Vanu leadership has been pretty tight since January. 99% becuase people unilaterally decided to stop being pricks and start cooperating, to talk out issue before globalling, and generally remember that our bickering ends up losing all fronts.

As such, there have been great battles, solid primary and secondaries and low signal to noise ratio.

It'll be interested to watch the trend of things over the next month or so.

Anyone care to record it?

You misunderstand Stan. I'm not saying to stop using global to designate targets. All I'm saying is to drop the "primary" BS. Not every CR5 agrees with those so-called primaries. Global your target and leave it at that. But don't presume to speak for the rest of us by designating the target a primary. Just because you "voted" on it doesn't mean shit since those votes do not take into account where everyone else (CR1-4) wants to be. The CR5's are not the majority of the empire, the troops are.

In closing, you are absolutely correct in that everyone of the same rank has the "right" to use global (myself included) although I prefer to think of it as an ability rather than a right. Just because you don't "like" the way I choose to excersise that ability doesn't make me wrong in how I do so any more than it makes you folks wrong in how you do so.

This is where we differ ... Myself and others don't need to WIN to have fun. Sure if we DO happen to win that's a nice bonus but it's not what we need to have a good time. We place fun above winning whereas I think some CR5's place the value of winning above having fun. Or even worse yet think winning and fun mean the same thing.

Now if I understand this right you agree that they're necessary. Why? Because without our home continents We can't fight anywhere eventually. If everyone took your idea instead of you just being the rogue of the pack we would ALWAYS be fighting on Amerish and Esamir. And that is BORING to people who paid to fight on all the continents and in the caves. I agree that if we own those and they're safe then by all means global whatever because its not going to do any good unless its a new offensive because the zerg goes where it wants. We merely try to persuade it to move to the most logical target that will give us a good fight when the TR/NC start showing up.

How do you think your last stands get started. It has to start with no enemy there at first. The Idea of calling a primary is starting a fight *usually* so no one is going to be there at first. I don't believe I have ever seen you call a primary that hasn't been started yet. So if it were up to you we'd just call primaries where the fight is already at.... that wouldn't be the case if we did that all the time because we'd eventually have to hack back our home continents once we lost them because there was no fight there. Home continents are essential and are ALWAYS the primary. You can't get away from that because fighting on Amerish and Esamir everyday would get pretty damn boring and you can't deny that.

When we finish a continent I simply look for another continent that already has some action on it. Nine times out of ten there will be a smallish group of Vanu that have ignored where everyone else is and opened the door on a new continent. Usually they are in desperate need of reinforcements as a NC or TR zerg is about to crush them. A few nights ago that was *exactly* what was going on on Cyssor which was why I globalled it as a target.

No boring "down time" waiting for the enemy to respond, and certainly no chance of it becoming a ghost hack continent.

There was already action there. Not a "maybe they'll come" scenerio, not a "if we hack here and here I'm sure they'll respond" scenerio. It's true sometimes they do respond. But then there's those other times when they either don't respond at all or they send in a half assed effort that is more of a joke than serious opposition. Sure we win the continent ... but what fun is an hour wasted ghost hacking a bunch of half empty or totaly empty enemy bases?

I global for the "looking for action this instant" troops. Unfortunately for the strategic crowd the continent with the most action on it is not always the best strategic choice.

The point still stands though that people will fight where they want to fight. You global your strategic target, you can even say which CR5's agree on this target if you think it will help your cause.

I in turn will continue to global the target that is going to provide troops with the most action possible at the moment and specify that this is "Bamelin's Target".

But please no "this is the primary target" or "all the CR5's agree on this target".

A. I'm a CR5 and I don't agree
B. I will call my target as primary in retaliation
C. In the case of Cyssor there were plenty of other CR5's that didn't agree with Searhus being called "primary"

Call your targets, get other CR5's to agree over global if you feel you need support for your choice. But don't presume to speak for the rest of us CR1-5 just because 5 of you voted on it.

First: Hey everybody - look it's a pretty good discusion going. THANK YOU.

Second: At the moment, we appear to be debating primaries, secondaries and general battle plans during regular gaming. You know what? A little back and forth doesn't kill us in daily gaming.

What really worries me (and yea its an actual worry becuase it'll definitely affect my fun) is how we will all react during special events. Special Events do call for absolute unity among the CR5's. There is no wiggle room for *other fun battles* as there are very specific and time constrainted goals to be met.

Johnny have you not been reading the thread? Bam doesn't want Primaries/Secondaries, he just wants to call the fight thats already going on. Which means we lose Amerish/Esamir on a daily basis and are stuck fighting there for quite a long time. Debating is good but I think we need to get this topic wrapped up as soon as we can in a way that will benefit everyone. I say let Bamelin call his last stands even though the zerg is already there if, and only if, Amerish and Esamir are safe. If those aren't safe Bamelin you have to sacrafice your fun just for a bit so we can resecure those continents, and who knows maybe you'll get a good fight out of it too. As long as you don't counter-global us when those two continents are in trouble. I think thats reasonable for everyone?

Well, theres a nice, handy-dandy feature PlanetSide has that can help those troops with that. It's called the 'Instant Action' button. Maybe someobody should post about it and let them know.

Well, that's why there can also be a 'secondary'. It comes after a primary, and can be used as an alternative target. I've heard this term used quite a few times for CR5s who can't agree on one single target. Quite useful sometimes.

As for 'all CR5s agree on this target', well, yes, that could be false. They really should say 'all CR5s currently online and who haven't said anything in C Chat agree on this target'. You never know if us regular heatbag players in-game can clarify that for ourselves, after all.

You misunderstand Stan. I'm not saying to stop using global to designate targets. All I'm saying is to drop the "primary" BS. Not every CR5 agrees with those so-called primaries.That is where mutual respect comes into play Bamelin, you sound like you are mature enough to understand that.

In closing, you are absolutely correct in that everyone of the same rank has the "right" to use global (myself included) although I prefer to think of it as an ability rather than a right. Just because you don't "like" the way I choose to excersise that ability doesn't make me wrong in how I do so any more than it makes you folks wrong in how you do so.You only regard it as an ability because it backs your side of the argument and you know it.

I'm asking that you stop calling the targets you pick the "primaries" but if you don't want to do do that's fine. Just be prepared for some "primaries" of my own.Putting this clear for you Bam, that would be no different from any other time you are on.

This is where we differ ... Myself and others don't need to WIN to have fun. Sure if we DO happen to win that's a nice bonus but it's not what we need to have a good time. We place fun above winning whereas I think some CR5's place the value of winning above having fun. Or even worse yet think winning and fun mean the same thing. Sanc lock sounds fun too doesn't it Bam, while your off zerging you ass at one base on Cyssor for 6 hours, the rest of us are locked in the sanc because of you, perhaps we should be paying you to play the game?

When we finish a continent I simply look for another continent that already has some action on it. Nine times out of ten there will be a smallish group of Vanu that have ignored where everyone else is and opened the door on a new continent.And nine times out of ten it's Cyssor right Bam?

Bamelin, you dont need to speak for everyone, they can speak for themselves. Every person in this game is free to do whatever they want - but the CR5's are here to lead. We would not be able to use global otherwise. Since there are many of us a vote needs to be done in order to maintain unity. No one has to listen to a global but command will continue to notify the empire of the supported continent and what command feels is a fun and tactically sound fight regardless of what you think, say, or do.

There is a lot of valid arguments here but the thread has veered off course. The whole reason for the hate is people got silenced for globaling. Most of the VS arent n00bs and we have a pretty good idea of who to listen to & who to ignore. I'm sure I'll get flamed for popping in .... b/c I'm a peon in the grand scheme...but most of the players are....like me. There has to be some form of "governing force" or the empires would be almost equally split on all of the continents at once...or maybe not to that extreme. but what I'm trying to say is if not for Primary & secondaries nothing would ever get done. Its your choice to follow them....most do, and we steamroll most of the time. I agree with the leadership most of the time.

its called copyright. If your at a company & design a new invention or whatnot on their dime ...its theirs plane as day. This applies to almost all aspects of life. When you cut & paste content on this board & move to somewhere else without permission you have in all reality "stolen" it. I know it sound lame....but that life. He has every right to ban you imho. He could prosecute for plaguirism...though thats a long pointless battle...he could do it. Thats his right....its his site. If it was an e-mail conversation perhaps it would be different.

I don't buy the whole "we'll get sanc locked!" argument although I'm sure I'll be used as a convienient scapegoat when and if that does ever happen when I'm online. Really the only time we do get sanc locked is generally at 3 in the morning when pop is down.

That said, even if we DO get sanc locked one always has the option of logging into their TR or NC avatar. Although I daresay breaking back into the "home conts" would probaly offer a fun battle as well.

I prefer to think of the CR5 role as that of a coordinator. I agree with you though that each person is free to do whatever they want.

Well when you contradict other CR5 opinions, the general Vanu get confused and don't know what the hell to do, cause, the way you put it, players like me are all mindless heatbags that can't figure out a 'fun-fight' for ourselves, and need some self-appointed spokesperson to decide all that for us.

I disagree. As somebody else put it in that Emerald thread I ressurected, (one) of the reasons people recall when a global goes out is that they feel the CR5's don't "care" about their fight. Not to mention the snowball effect that occurs as more and more people leave. But when a CR5 globals or contalls that they are staying, many of the troops will stay too ... partly because somebody who can help coordinate the current battle has made it clear they are not going to abandon the troops.

I never claimed to be the entire Vanu spokesperson, I prefer to think of myself as a vocal proponent of those that prefer to finish the battles they are currently in.

Not when CR5's voice attitudes like that. The zerg is made up of individuals. And they generally DO have brains despite what you may believe. And many of those individuals, like me, don't care about the global situation. We prefer our continental fun. We really don't care what is going to happen 5 hours from now. This is a somewhat harsh truth for the strategic thinkers to deal with. Call us selfish, self centred, etc, it really has no effect on us. We pay to have fun now, not to be saddled with defensive "duties" we could care less about. Hell most of us could care less which empire we're fighting on provided there's lots of action. We don't see "empire responsibility" the way you do because we don't see a difference between playing our VS, TR or NC avatar aside from the weapons each side uses.

What really worries me (and yea its an actual worry becuase it'll definitely affect my fun) is how we will all react during special events. Special Events do call for absolute unity among the CR5's. There is no wiggle room for *other fun battles* as there are very specific and time constrainted goals to be met.

Special events are fun. I'll fully support those events no matter what's going on elsewhere ... mainly because I believe most Vanu will want to take part in those special events.

Finally regarding homeland defence ... if the zerg is there I'll be there too. If the zerg is somewhere else having fun, then that's where I'll be. I should point out as well that often the best way to get the NC or TR off one of the homeland continents is to hit one of THEIR homeland continents. Since they think the same way you guys do a massive attack on one of their "homelands" is bound to make the "OH NOES THE HOMELAND EVERYONE RECALL!!!" globals ring out as surely as they do when OUR homeland is under attack.

So instead of recalling to our homelands consider attacking one of THEIR homelands in force. I know this works. I used to do this to the NC all the time on Hossin (this is wayyyy back when the brodcast gates were not yet implemented) then laugh at them on the forums afterwards because they fell for it.

Not all of us have an NC/TR avatar and not all of us care to make one. Not all of us can use it even if we have one. That comment is just a crummy excuse.

Well, the thing is, the Global Strategy tries to get fun for everyone, unlike your continental battle that only gets fun and action for just whoevers on said cont. I believe I've said some more of this same stuff at VSCommand in the thread you made.

As for you not caring about what happens hours from now, well, what about those same people who get on then? They'll most likely get shafted on getting any good 'fun' fight. And that just isn't fair. They also pay to have the same fun too, you know.

I've no problem with you guys having a fun fight by yourselves. I just don't see how your fight warrants other paying players getting it right up the ass after you're done.

You and your continental buddies may not care about them. But the Global guys do.

Regardless of what you think, the Global game tries to defend what we got so that we'll have links to other conts for more people, even ones like you, to have fights on later. That, and you've got something to defend, should it get hit later.

Actions in PS are supposed to be long-term like that, and the Global game sticks to that truest, IMO.

One of the points of the game is aquiring land/territory from the enemy and HOLDING it. After all, don't you want to keep what you fought for? Besides, if we didn't hold something, we would be stuck in Sanctuary. Someone has to play the Global game for you to have your Continental game.

Many of us realise this, and thats why we play the Global game, and plat defense, regardless of what you want us to do or what you 'feel is best for us'.

If all you wan't is action and fun-fights, why bother shelling cash to play this game, when I'm certain there are many other games that also offer lots of action and fun? What makes this game so special?

Well, things just arent the same as they used to be. Doing that isn't always possible, and even when it is, it doesn't eliminate the need for actual/regular defense. If they're like us, there will be stubborn continental guys who'll stay on our home conts anyway. And that means there needs to be a defense of some sort.

We can't just go and attack the NCs home cont when ours gets attacked, that's not always possible. And it's never simple to do so, even when it is possible. Usually, its easier to just recall to place we've already got and are trying to hold than to go through the hassle of traveling to another enemy-held cont to start another assualt.

Anyway, thats that for now, I may reply to a couple other points, but that will be later, that is, if I bother to reply to them at all. Bah.

As for you 'Imachick' go ahead and post your opinions here. That's what this one forum in this Board is for, general discussion by anyone in PlanetSide (Or so I assume), besides, it's good to know what peons like you (and me for that matter) think. ;)

Really you don't have to read his posts anymore, its the samething he has been posting since the merger. I don't read them and I probably can summarize what the whole thing says. Like an old beat up broken record, just all BS with no hard valid points.

You can't call your 'own primaries'. I don't think you understand what a primary is, nor do you understand what a CR5 has to do.

The easiest way to deal with him is to appeal him in game, IP ban him from the site, and for each global he whips out, break out another 20. The mindless zerg will listen to quantity.

Unless the rest of you enjoy fighting with him, then carry on as you have been for the past 2 years.
