I know I have seen alot of posts that hint you are in the IT areas of work. I have a client that has a failed/failing HD. I can plug it in and see it. The drive is detected in the BIOS and such, but it cant read from the disk. The folders and data shows up, but trying to copy just results in errors.

chkdsk /r just pauses. It's seriously screwed. ALOT of bad sectors. Anyone ever had a server crisis and employed a data recovery firm/company? I need suggestions as he has backups, but he only does it weekly. I am going to set him up with a backup plan. He has an external drive I will setup incremental daily backups for. This runs a music store. He has about a weeks worth of records he needs back so any suggestions would be nice.

I've had similar issues in the shop, the normal kinda things didnt work out. There wasn't anything of value to recover so why waste my time recovering it. But you can try some data recovery programs as recovery companies charge about 4 arms and 18 legs to do it. R-studio, GetDataBack, RecoverMyFiles are some decent ones. I've used both GetDataBack and RecoverMyFiles with success.

i'll talk to the drive recovery man in my office on wednesday, see what he suggests.

i tried putting a hdd in the freezer once, determined it was an old wives' fix. (didn't work.)
